Another month, another status post.
I’ve been a bit more focused since the last update, finishing two more chapters of Thrall. So far my inspiration seems to be holding steady, and if I can manage the same again next month I’ll be about 2/3 of the way through the book.

Has the alternating method, i.e. switching to work on another series or idea when you hit a block, helped out or does it make it worse for you? My curiosity wants to know.

Hello Mister William, I have greately enjoyed your three works about Daniel, and altough I desperate want to know more about what you have in store for him, I understand that those work needed a process, so whatever you did then to deliver such a great work, I hope you would do now again in this 4. Thanks for the status update.

I agree completely! I have checked around 30 times looking for the next alice long novel. I read a lot and have to say that Alice is my favorite character – maybe ever. From an avid reader, that’s saying a lot. So if you need to set something aside for awhile, let it be Daniel. I actually like those books, but would actually pay you my entire entertainment budget to speed along the next in the Alice Long series!

Yes, the book is truly excellent. Anybody know anything with similar themes (secretly royal or really important hero, transhumanism & augumentation, not-so-villainous villains /Mirai/) to read while waiting for volume 2?

Garon Whitfield’s Nightlord series was in some ways similar and quite enjoyable. It’s nowhere near the caliber of Daniel Black, which is awesomeness distilled. But satisfying while we wait for book 4.

He is unpublished but honesty I can’t understand why, his books would easily fit among some of the best scifi/fantasy epics/Opera’s ever.
Another great series that would fit your criteria is Portals of Infinity by John Van Stry, really enjoyed this series and it’s among the top books/series of the year for me, I’ve read 115 books this year and am on 116 right now so..

Just reread Alice Long. The questions I forgot I had are burning again.
1. Will we get a perspective of events on the Square Deal or the aftermath?
2. What happened to the additional Emlas and the quick-fab Mirai drones?
3. Will we get to see some of the dark space colonies Sokol diverted from in the next book?
4. Does Alice sneak anything over to Hope?
5. Do any Female interests show up for Alice? As it was, it was kind of a whiplash effect going from the interest in Dita and the interest in Naoko to the Kavin and Akio situation, without the general interest in sexual characteristics rising as well. Does Alice have a matrix for attraction like her threat matrix? It just seemed inconsistant through the story, when as she continued to mature, her interest should have risen throughout the story. Unless it was hidden behind the scenes, but it would be nice to know, as it was a plot thread that was appearing, changing, and disappearing.
6. Will we see more of Alice’s charisma effect on androids in the next book?
7. Warbot Commander Alice is fun to read, want more.

I believe #2 and #5 where covered in the book just never directly.
For #2 I read it as beeing implied that they were destroyed by the last demolition charge, i.e. they pulled their minds out of them before the charge when off.
And #5 I assumed it was more she was always interested in men, but substituted women since she had never met any men the fore. She continued to show sexual interest it women i.e. the fox girls to an extent and Emla. Also she was pretty clear that she had no problems with sharing this all indicate a more open sexual identity, while still wanting a male mate, this would make sense with the enhanced social instincts since they would be base on our natural instincts she would want a male to have children with. However, I assume that not actually necessary with their tech, their also no reason to change it.

For #5 it just seemed like she observed everyone she found sexually attractive, but in the second half that went to 2 “Prime” males she found attractive, with her interest in everybody else dropping. The whiplash was that she has a companion she kept telling that she was not ready for anything, but as soon as it came to the 2 potential mates her behavior shifted radically, becoming more willing to indulge in experiences she had stated herself unready for, and extending both of them trust and secrets she had previously kept low key. Basically, declaring herself prime mating material by her potential mates’ standards; Kevin by her desplays of transhuman ability and tactical ability; Akio, by matching his transhuman abilities and showing hints and secrets of advanced technology and Japanese heredity. This just seems like she has underlying programming or something that is acting as a potential mate matrix, evaluating them as mate material and possible future assistance.
The Behavior shifted mid-story is all I am saying.

I found #5 rather jarring. I can imagine that it was necessary for the future storyline to add those 2 guys but I recall finding it a bit to abrupt.. Just slightly out of character speaking to the growth of Alice as a person. So yeah the behavioral change as Kyryst said.. It all felt just a bit off as in out of phase with the progression, which fazed me.
It may be that certain parts of the story around that point in the book where edited out!? Who knows..

I wonder how hard it would be for Daniel to draw things like titanium for stronger weapons, zinc in high amounts to be used as a poison for gaias world or arsenic powder to be blown in Mass amounts….. If he has Earth magic I wonder if he could create targeted lightning by causing friction.

The Daniel Black series is fast becoming my all time favorite series that I have ever read and it might even end up being the first book series I ever read twice! It is just such a fun read and I LOVE the characters, plot, magic system etc.
My only complain is that the books aren’t like 1300 pages each lol..

Just read the Daniel Black for the second. This series is meet just about ever interest I have in a book. Until the all is released, if there is any other in E. William Brown’s level please let me know.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how Daniel blacks actual present is going to change the humans in Europe? He seems to be starting out from a trans human perspective he can create wolfen, cat girls, elves and sorcerers. I’m pretty sure given enough time the humans that survive in Europe are going to transform into something else that’s not even counting his ability to maybe have super soldier creation capacity.

I have never checked up on the status of a book before. Honestly, never cared enough to bother. Yet here I am for the twentieth time, hopeful and wanting to punch something. While I love your work and respect the hell out of your writing, if I somehow randomly die before I get to read this book, know sir, that I will haunt the shit out of you…..

Kinda hping the long gap in posting is due to him being right at the end of the book and just finishing up and so he is waiting to postt until he can say the book is finished and will be uploaded after edits :D…. hopefully
